Needless to say I didn't get a lot of sleep after the morning's startling events. Being broken up with is never a good feeling, but being blindsided with the abrupt end of a relationship that seemed so flawless... that's uncanny. There had honestly been no warning of the relationship coming to an end. And it didn't seem like 민규 was willing to work out the details.
The one good thing about being thousands of miles apart from your family and friends is that they are awake during the wee hours of the night when they usually wouldn't be in a similar time zone.
I finally drag myself out of bed, wishing that all that time I had just been sleeping and having a bad dream. It was childish to think, as there was nothing I could do but wait for a response.
But waiting was not all I was about to do. Not even the most perfect man could deter me from wasting a perfectly good day. Especially not in my favorite city.
I give my mom a call, who'd been on and off the phone with me since 2 or 3 am. She's a saint, really.
I want nothing more than to just take a moment to relax in the world's best vegan bakery. So as I have a somewhat one-sided conversation (mostly my mom filling in for my silence) with my mom, I make the jaunt over to The Bread Blue. The weather is cold, the sky is a heather grey. If weather could reflect emotions... Seoul's on point.
As I arrive, I notice that the shades are pulled, the lights off, and the door closed. I check my phone's time, 10:30 am, an hour after the supposed opening time.
I sigh, but accept what is and make do with a nice cup of coffee from Starbucks. I had secretly hoped to get all of my frustrations off of my chest with Arthur, but thankfully I have a ragtag team of optimistic, feisty best friends at home. And they were more than willing to share their uncensored opinions with me.
I busy myself between video editing, work, and blog writing. When there's absolutely no more to do, I realize the afternoon is rolling in, and its nearing 1 pm. I had little appetite, and couldn't even think of something I wanted to eat... except maybe 곌란빵 (gyellan ppang | egg bread).
I know I need to get something besides soy milk and caffeine inside my bod so I swing by Smoothie King and order a CHERRY EXTREME.
I return home, watching Netflix while sipping on my smoothie. It was no use, I wasn't even able to finish the episode before I grew agitated and needed to get out of my room. It was the awkward hour where my friends in Seoul were at work, and my friends at home were sleeping. And being alone is not something I enjoy when I'm not feeling the happiest.
After kicking my buns into gear, I decide to return to the bakery to see if they had opened. As I walked, I watched the CUTEST OLD COUPLE. The 할아버지 (halabeoji | grandpa) reached back for his wife's hand, and they walk hand in hand down the busy sidewalk.
To my delight, the bakery lights were lit, warm and inviting. Arthur was working the counter, and he seemed pleased that I'd returned. There was a single 고구마 (koguma | sweet potato) croissant waiting for me. I snatch it, and order a soy latte to warm up.
I didn't have work to get done or videos to edit. Instead I decided I would do some creative writing, something I hadn't done in quite sometime. I busted out a long and detailed children's story over the span of four hours. As I worked, I received a message on Instagram from a follower. They found me by my Pokemon Go pictures, and started up a conversation. Relieved to have someone to talk to I kept the conversation going as I wrote.
I finished my story and pack my things, stopping by the convenient store near my home before turning in for the night. I wanted seaweed snacks, and I tried three or four stores before finally they had them in stock. I had been so determined, I had wound up another ten minutes from my apartment. I went to pay and... Wallet...
where's my wallet.
I had a sudden flashback to setting my wallet on the booth when I had gone to pay for my coffee and bread.
Oh. My. God.
So I apologize to the worker and make the twenty minute Olympic-style speed walk to the opposite end of 신촌. Arthur is relieved to see me return as he pulls my wallet out of the cash drawer. I heave a big sigh of 다행이다 (dahaengida | bless up | thank goodness).
I finally return home and decide it best to return to my netflix and fill...................... my glass with wine.
And had a rather relaxing evening at home.
