Thursday rolls around and I drop by my bakery. Oh, yeah. It's mine now. I own it.
At least I own the table I sit in almost every single day. They've memorized my order. I think that's fair.
Well today as I walked past I was reminded the 명근 (Myeongeun) works the late shift on Thursdays, and wouldn't be in until 2 pm. Not that I don't love and adore my cafe 언니 (eonnie | older sister of a girl), but I saw this as a fantastic opportunity to experience a new outlet. So I curved in the direction of 홍대 (Hongdae) ... then 합정 (Hapjeong) ... DEEP 합정 (Habjeong). Like I almost found myself wading in the waters of 한강 (Han gang | Han River)
I managed to find my way all the way back to the Cook and Book cafe, even without a trail of bread crumbs.
I was determined to finally get my pistachio milk latte and I was totally entranced by their apple strudel muffins the last time I had been in. And naturally that was what I got. Vegan, but definitely not healthy. The apples muffin was possibly one of the best breakfast treats I'd had in a long time. The pistachio milk latte was nice, but had a very, very subtle pistachio taste. I did opt for it without syrup though, so perhaps that is where it was lacking.
After breakfast, I figured since I was already in the area I'd make a trip into 망원 (Mangwon) one station over and get a take away donut from The Raw by Twins. The Raw by Twins is a cafe tucked into the back roads between 망원 and 합정, and sells raw deserts and smoothies. Raw food, by general definition is food that is "uncooked and unprocessed". They had been advertising their new pumpkin cream donuts on their instagram, and as a pumpkin lover and apparently also striving to become one myself, I decided to get one.
I then walked ALL the way back to 신촌 (Sinchon). It was so hot that I managed to make an excuse to stop into Bread Blue anyways and order a takeout latte. 명근 had just begun his shift, so I had the pleasure of seeing both him and C. 언니 (Cafe eonnie | I don't know her actual name). I tell them about my morning and they seem utterly concerned at the distance I had endured versus the temperature outside.
At home I lounged around until 8 pm, when I planned to meet 윤재 (Yoonjae) in 홍대 for a girl's night. I dropped by the bakery once more on the way there and brought 명근 and Almond Joy, since they don't have them here. He was utterly grateful.
I waited in 홍대, while I waited a little old grandma came up to me with a survey. She then asked if I would join her church. I politely declined and continued to sit until a guy sidled up to me. Striking up a conversation. He asked for my phone number, and I was saved by a message from 윤재 announcing her arrival. I used it as a legitimate excuse to disappear from this guy forever and scurried over to Playground Park.
I had also planned to pick up my pay check from my boss at for tutoring at Playground Rooftop Bar and Cafe. So we wandered upstairs into the cafe. At the bar, a somewhat extravagantly dressed male sat alone. He recognized 윤재 and they struck up a conversation, while I found out from the other employees that my boss would likely not arrive for another 20 minutes.
I met 윤재's friend, 쩐승 (Jjeonseung), who she had met at Mike's Cabin once before. She asked if I wanted to wait inside of 쌀파 (Sseolpa | Thursday Party) until my boss arrived. I agreed, and 쩐 apparently took this as an invitation to join us. But for our compensation in joining putting an early dismissal to our girl's night, he bought us a round of beers. We got to know each other over drinks, in the middle of which I ran next door to catch up with my boss and pick up my pay check. He made sure that I knew I'd be welcome to come back any time, as my reviews from my students are always above and beyond (Yay!).
I returned to the bar and found the two waiting for me still. 쩐 mentions that he loves dancing, and I agree to go dancing with him after 윤재 headed home (as she had work in the morning).
We hit up the Corner Pub,
then Playground park where we took a break on the alcohol and opted for
After which we said adieu to the lovely 윤재 (Yoonjae) and went to 3,900 푸차 (poocha | alcohol and food place). This is where things started to turn.
쩐 admitted to really liking me, to which I responded with an innocent "you're a nice guy, but also we JUST met". He got a little touchy but nothing too horrendous, just trying to hold my hand and stuff. We refuel with this weird egg pancake thing that was not that great, and 소맥 (somaek | soju and beer). The midnight meal could have gone better, but the real kicker came when it was time to pay. 쩐 tried to tell me that his card has a limit, and that he wouldn't be able to pay.
Even though
this
was his
idea.
So I simply responded with a "my card isn't working right now."
And maybe it wasn't? But not to my knowledge. I just wasn't about to buy his dinner. I have no idea with splitting half and half, but that would require me to admit my card was working, and I knew he wanted me to pay for all.
So he ends up paying somehow, and we move on to club Gabba or Gabbia... something along those lines. Its free entry, alright music, and the smoking is segregated from the dance floor. So it wasn't bad.
And I love dancing, that was no lie. But 쩐 didn't seem to understand I like dancing solo. As in not back to front with a guy.
Especially one I did NOT want to dance with.
I ended up having to tell him right there in the club that he was "NOT my style", and that I don't want a relationship with him. He backed off, but it definitely killed his vibe. We ended up leaving within a few minutes, to which we talked outside. He deemed me a liar, saying that I had said "I liked him". I was tired, and didn't have time to deal with this immature bull poopola. I had said he was a nice guy. Not that I liked him.
So I announced that I was going home, and began marching in the direction of my apartment. After a few minutes, he caught up to me and tried to talk it out with me. But I have a low tolerance for stupid boys, and I hadn't planned to spend all night in 홍대 in the first place. I was tired.
So around 4 am I arrive home, blessed be. I message 윤재 that I was safe and sound in my bed and finally shut my eyes.
